Abstract
Total knee prosthesis has been applied to 26 knees of 22 patients in Dr. Muhittin Ulker Emergency and Traumatology Hospital, 1st Orthopaedics and Traumatology Clinic, between October 1991 - January 1994. 20 patients (24 knees) who were regularly controlled were evaluated. Total knee arthroplasty was applied to 19 patients (23 knees) because of osteoarthritis, to 1 patient because of left femur distal metaphyseal giant cell tumor. Bilateral total knee arthroplasty was applied to 4 patients. The mean patient age was 61.9 (36-74), the mean follow-up time was 23.6 months (12-35) during the operations. All patients were female. Custom-made constrained total knee prosthesis was applied to the patient operated for tumor. Patellar arthroplasty was performed to 3 patients. Cemented fixation was applied for all of the prosthesis. A mean flexion of 82° (50°-100°) was achieved. At the last control the mean knee score was 77.6 (32-95), the mean functional score was 75.2 (35-100). 21 knees (85 %) were better, 1 knee was the same and 2 knees (8.5 %) were worse than the preoperative condition. Revisions were performed for 3 patients because of mechanical loosening.
