Abstract

This study was carried out to determine the effect of Pes Planus on the strength of the foot muscles, range of motion in the ankle joint and angle of Achilles tendon in a randomized 561 healthy child population. The degree of Pes Planus was graded by assessing the Feiss line. Subjects were tested for muscle strength with manual muscle testing, joint motion range and deviation in the line of pull of the Achilles tendon with goniometer. Negative correlation was found between the degree of Pes Planus and the strength of the Tibialis Posterior, Anterior, Peroneus Longus and Brevis muscles. There was a significant decrease in the range of motion of the ankle joint. Also, the positive correlation was found between Achilles deviation and Pes Planus was significant (p<0.005).
