The Treatment For Congenital Elevation Of The Scapula By The Woodward Operation

Abstract
The results of ten cases of congenital elevation of the scapula, treated by the Woodward operation between 1988 to 1994, at the Department of Orthopaedics and Traumatology of Ege University Medical Faculty are presented in this paper. The average age at the time of operation was 6.8 years (range three to fifteen years). The average postoperative increase in shoulder abduction was 33 degrees, and the average scapular lowering was 2.7 centimeters at the end of the 38 months of follow-up. The cosmetic results according to Cavendish's classification were Grade 1 in four patients (40%), and Grade 2 in five patients (50%).
