Fractures of the Proximal Fifth Metatarsal

Abstract

Twenty four patients with fractures of the proximal fifth metatarsal were reviewed. In contrast with the literature most of our patients were female with a high average age. The pain persisted in 3 of 13 tuberosity avulsion fractures, 2 of 6 metaphyseal fractures and in 1 of 5 proximal diaphyseal fractures in the follow up period. All of these patients had come to us so late after the trauma or did not cooperate in our treatment regimen.
