Abstract
Hinged silastic implants were applied to the 8 metatarsophalangeal, joints of 7 patients with degenerative arthritis. In 2 cases proximal metatarsal wedge osteotomy was performed in cooperation with silastic implant arthroplasty. All of the patients have returned to their daily activities with no or diminished pain, with no restriction and using regular shoes after a follow up period of 20 (6 to 32 months) months. In one case there was persistent metatarsalgia. No infection or silicon synovitis was seen.
