Evaluation of the Results of Surgical and Conservative Treatments In Acetabulum Fractures

Abstract
Purpose: In this study, the outcome of 62 patients who were treated either surgically or conservatively at the 3rd Department of Orthopaedics of Numune State Hospital between the dates January 1993 and June 1997 was evaluated.
Patients and methods: Of sixty-two patients 37 (60%) were male, 25 (40%) were female. Mean age was 38.7 years with a range of 19-68. In fifty-four cases fracture was due to traffic accident, in 5 cases due to fall from height and in 3 cases due to of crush injuries.
Results: Fractures were classified according to Judet and Letournel classification 33 patients were treated surgically, 29 conservatively. Patients were evaluated according to radiological findings at the latest follow-up. Surgically treated patients had 75% good or excellent results and conservatively treated patients had 67%. 11 patients had heterotrophic ossification and 9 had early arthritic changes.
Conclusion: We believe that increase in success rate is due to proper patient selection and treatment.
