Abstract

Rice bodies with synovial origin resemble cartilage and they are usually sourced of fibrin. They are supposed as synovial chondromatosis wrongly. Tuberculosis, rheumatoid arthritis or other seronegative arthropathies may exist in the etiology. Twenty-one years old patient with complainted of occasional swelling and pain, underwent diagnostic arthroscopy. Massive rice bodies with synovitis in the joint were observed in the knee arthroscopy under local anesthesia. Afterward, open surgical extirpation with subtotal synovectomy was performed. Fibrinous structure was observed histopathologically. No recurrence was found during follow up period, also no underlying tuberculosis or rheumatologic pathology was detected.
