Abstract

Introduction: Pain in hindfoot can be caused by both extraarticular and intraarticular pathologies. These hindfoot pathologies, that can not be reached by ankle artroscopy, can thorougly be diagnosed and treated by hindfoot endoscopy. In this study, we aimed to present the short term results of our cases.
Patients and methods: Between February 2002 and January 2003, posterior ankle arthroscopy were performed on 6 patients having posterior ankle patologies. The mean age of patients was 40 years (32-55 years) and the mean preoperative symptomatic period of cases was 31 months (12- 60 months).
Results: The mean preoperative AOFAS score was 73 (64-85). Postoperative AOFAS score, after average follow-up period of 4.6 months (12-60 months), was 94.6 (87-100). At evaluation according to subjective patient satisfaction, we determined excellent -good results in 5 patients and fair in one.
Discussion: By having detailed knowledge on regional anatomy, gaining experience and concerning the tecnique defined for hindfoot endoscopy; most of the pathologies causing hindfoot pain can be diagnosed and treated safely and reliably.
