Abstract

Unipolar external fixators were applied to 13 cases of open humeral fractures between January 1992 - January 1994 in D.U.T.F. Orthopaedic and Traumatology Clinic. Union is achieved in 11 of 13 cases by using external fixators as definitive treatment. In one case nonunion was treated by DCF + bone graft. In other case osteomyelitis was diagnosed. The elbow ankylosis was seen in one case which is associated with ipsilateral comminueted forearm fractures. In a case which was applied osteosynthesis with DCP, had restriction of motion in the elbow. We concluded that the application of external fixator is a useful method for the open humoral fractures.
