Abstract
Non-union is one of the important complications of tibial fractures. During 1990-1993, external circular stabilizator (ECS) was applied to 19 delayed union or nonunion cases in Ministry of Health Ankara State Hospital. All of our patients were mobile during the whole treatment period. After union was shown radiologically the removal of the apparatus was performed. All patients had union after treatment. Two pin tract infections (grade II and III) and pain in one patient were the complications. ECS is advantageous compared to the other types of treatments in pseudoarthrosis of tibia, since the other alternatives have a high rate of complications and cause a major operational trauma.
