Abstract

Acute hematogenous and subacute osteomyelitis are frequently seen in childhood. Subacute patellar osteomyelitis is rarely seen and therefore its early diagnosis may be difficult due to the rarity of this infection with the absence of systemic signs and symptoms. This report aims to present a case of patellar osteomyelitis in an eight-year-old boy with pain and swelling in the right knee. Infection was evacuated by surgery and the space was filled with autologous bone graft. Long term follow-up revealed a complete recovery of the patient with normal range of knee motion.
