Abstract

Congenital tibial hemimelia is a rare deformity with unknown etiology. The deformity has an incidence of 1 per million live births and a family inheritence may be positive. In this paper a case of untreated 28 years-old congenital tibial hemimelia is discussed. The patient was crutch dependent on walking. With knee desarticulation and usage of modular prosthesis he became independently functional on his daily activities. In treatment of congenital tibial hemimelia, early amputation surgery which allows proper prosthesis rehabilitation is proposed by many authors.
