The acromion, which plays an important role in the etiology of the shoulder impingement syndrome was examined both anatomically and radiologically. With the AP neutral, 30 degrees caudally AP and transscapular lateral radiograms taken from the patients, subacromial spur and acromion variation was better evaluated. In the examination made on the dry cadaver scapulas in Morphology Department, an acromion variation, different from the three types given in the literature, was observed. In the evaluation both clinically and morphologically, the degenerative changes on the acromion was seen in the highest degree in the scapulas having type 3 acromion.
